More Quonset Huts added today. Two large ones that I saw last week in Mt Vernon while driving for work. We went up there Saturday, but had such a good time driving up there on some old roads we didn't get to the huts until late afternoon. One of them turned out to be a diner so it was easy to decide to try it out.

It served as the major northeastern naval base during the war and subsequent years. The Quonset design was based on the Nissen hut developed by the British during World War I. The British company who held the patent lowered their ownership in name of the war effort during WW II. The original logic of the Nissen hut was it all fit on one truck and could be erected quickly. One of the original designers was a Canadian officer.
